“Chickens are cheaper than therapy, and you get eggs. And smiles” (Gina Whitehead)
Several months ago, my wife and I and our three littles, ages 6 years, 4 years, and 7 months, moved to a new home. A couple of weeks ago, we finally got chickens at our new place. My wife thanks me almost every day for getting them.
My lovely wife is s stay-at-home mom and while she wouldn’t have it any other way, let’s be real, life with a baby and two very energetic young boys can be quite taxing. Over the last 2 weeks, she and the children have loved soaking up the beautiful fall weather and just watching the chickens do their thing. It has been a delightful destresser for them all.
Therapy certainly has its place. I’m not knocking it at all. I’ve gone to therapy myself. I recommend it.
But one of the cheapest, simplest and most effective things you can do to improve your mental state on the daily is to spend time outside enjoying nature.
Improve your mental health. Get outside. Spend some time with your chickens.
Happy World Mental Health Day!
