The Egg Cart'n Homesteader

I got this one a few weeks ago I don't know how I was able to go without it all these years, I'm raising 60 baby chicken in it right now, it's wonderful, I understand that it wasn't built for that but it's working for me, and will work for less adults but at least I'm NOT worried about losing any of the babies as in the past years, hopefully by time these became adults I'll be able to get another one, The owners are wonderful people, do everything they can to help you out, very trustworthy, so nice people, just can't go wrong in buying one of these carts if you're really interested in keeping your chickens safe, I am a 70 year old lady and I NO PROBLEM moving this around my rough fields and I don't have to worry about the clean up, as mother nature does it for me

I am very happy with my Egg Cart'n Homesteader. Here are my three issues that, if changed, would make it five star. 1) It is hard to crate something like this and ship it. My crate was damaged and I ended up with some bent roofing corners and sketchy times trying to uncrate. I unloaded with the forks on my tractor and it was touch and go. 2) The open wire ends are 1" square. There should be an option for smaller. I have bull snakes that will cause issues if I don't attach some smaller square hardware cloth. 3) I wish the nest boxes had wire bottoms so that poop and litter could fall through to the ground below, instead of having to be cleaned out. I am using wood chips and shavings for nesting material.

If you are looking at one of these, please pull the trigger. They are built well and work great!

I love my homesteader. And my chickens are happy in it. :-) it is so well built and easy to move around our yard. I have 20 to 23 chickens in it and there's plenty of room for them. They love roasting up top and then going down below to eat the grass. I would highly recommend this product. It's a well worth investment. I love my daily routine of moving the chickens and getting my eggs.

I purchased two Homesteaders last summer. They are built well, easy to assemble, easy to move and when not below about 20 degrees fahrenheit, the manure almost all falls through the floor and onto the ground making cleaning easy. Although each Homesteader will hold 20 to 25 birds as claimed, I personally like to keep each at 18 birds max and even then I let them out whenever weather is good. But I must admit I want the very best life for my birds. I love to see them thrive. My biggest concern was that the provided weather skirting panels might not provide enough insulation and shelter for the birds to withstand the winters in northwest PA. This past winter was brutal. We hit -22F one night, -19F another night and -17F another night, and for several weeks lows ranged from -10F to +5F with highs not much greater. During this time it was quite windy as well, sometimes terribly windy. The two homesteader tractors were out in an open field on top of a hill with no protection from the wind. Incredibly, not one chicken even got frostbite on their waddles or combs! They survived perfectly with no signs of stress! There were 18 chickens in each tractor, so even at less than max rated capacity there were no issues. Water buckets were frozen over each morning for the month of absurdly low temperatures, but the chickens were able to peck holes through the ice to get water until I was able to get them new unfrozen water. I am happy with the tractors.
